Clay is found by digging Clay Soil that spawns under one of six indicator Plants depending on the Climate of the region. Some Plants change what they look like depending on the season! Clay also requires a Rainfall value of 100 or greater and Dirt to spawn. Each deposit ranges from 4-14 blocks wide and 1-3 deep and each block can yield 1-3 clay balls. Clay can be mined by hand, but mining with a shovel vastly increases the speed. Template:ClayFlowersSlideshowSince the player spawns in a temperate region, Athyrium Ferns
are the most common marker for early game clay deposits.
Clay blocks can be crafted from clay balls, but they aren't the same as clay dirt. Clay blocks do not obey gravity, while clay dirt will fall if unsupported!
