Overview
Firestarters are used to ignite fires. To use, hold down right click until it succeeds or fails in starting a fire.
They are most often used to ignite a Firepit, Charcoal Pit, or Pit Kiln, but can be used on the top of any block to start a fire. Unlike Flint & Steel, a fire is not guaranteed to start every time, though adding kindling will help a Firepit ignite. A Forge, Bloomery, or Blast Furnace will always succeed in lighting if the requirements are met.
While inexpensive, Firestarters often take several tries to work, and have only eight durability, so upgrading to a better method is useful.
